Happy Valley in Hong Kong is one of my favourite places to visit. Having lived in the area for a number of years whilst growing up, it has an intimate familiarity for me.
Those familiar with Happy Valley will recognize this lane immediately, located just near the Hong Kong Tramway’s Happy Valley Terminus. This used to be the way for the horses to walk to and from the stables up the hill on Shan Kwong Road and the Happy Valley Race Course, all operated by The Hong Kong Jockey Club. While this path is not really used for horses anymore, the history behind it is clearly visible with the darker brick outlines of horses. Part of a bygone era. I crouched down low, and waited patiently for a quieter moment. The crowds thinned out, and I was left with a sole person pulling her luggage, no doubt filled with groceries from the local supermarket nearby. A very Hong Kong thing to do.
