Sai Ying Pun Guy in Monochrome

Sai Ying Pun in Hong Kong is a neighbourhood that is a mix of up and coming hip mixed with old school charm. You will see many older buildings that provide a mix of residential, offices, factories, restaurants and daily convenience shops. For this particular picture, I had just arrived in Sai Ying Pun and was starting to fire up my camera. The Canon EF 70-200 f2.8 which is a beast of a lens was attached to my camera. On one side was a sea of traffic speeding along. Cars parked everywhere else on the side road I was standing on. Trucks unloading their dried goods. The clamour of metal boxes and trolleys, with the cars whizzing by created an almost cocoon like feeling. The sun was just starting to set. I spun to my left and aimed at the highway sign. Focus locked and ready. The footbridge was empty apart from the sole soul. He started walking across, I held my posture, finger on shutter, and trying my best not to move too much. As the person walked under the arrow, I squeezed the shutter button down, hoping that the subject was in the right spot. Success. All of that happened in under 2 seconds. Timing really is everything, and sometimes just some good luck.
