Yat Tung Street Life in Monochrome

$300.00$2,500.00

A random walk in Tung Chung on Lantau Island took me to Yat Tung Estate. This is a government housing estate where the local wet market has been renovated to look like Hong Kong from a few decades ago. It was just after 2pm in the middle of summer. The sun blazing down with high humidity. I had just taken the pictures of the rickshaw and the old post box. It was time to grab some food and a well deserved cold tasty beverage. I stood on the path between the wet market on my left, and the more modern, albeit run down shopping mall on the right. People were moving around in all directions. Walking with purpose. Best I could do was to stay out of the way. This is when I spotted the two people sitting on the bench looking serene and just chilling out. Not even playing with mobile phones. Just watching the world go by, or perhaps watching the other person placing his order. I’m not sure. But in the busy environment, these individuals looked like they were content. As a side note, I ended up forgetting to sort out my own food and realized only once I arrived back at Tung Chung MTR station. Not the first time, and definitely will not be the last either. The second side side note: I only realized afterwards that the shutter speed of 1/20 would usually be much too low for a handheld shot so I am rather impressed with how still I must have been standing.
